YOGA and DANCE Workshop
We are happy to announce a Yoga & Dance Workshop, the complete body conditioning on July 4th & 5th, 2020 (Saturday & Sunday) with Rahul Acharya, new generation male Odissi dancer from India and disciple of late Guru Debaprasad Das & Guru Durga Charan and Bhavana Reddy one of India’s leading young Kuchipudi performers and torchbearer of the Reddy tradition.
Yoga for dance: For Indian classical dances, the body is considered a chariot, riding inside is the Atma as the charioteer. In our dance classes we first learn to pray and then we start our practise. This is to say that our bodies are conditioned with the gift of Yoga. Our body conditioning comes from the asanas that have been passed down to us. In this workshop you will learn to condition your bodies as dancers, that becomes an integral part of your dance practise. We learn the true essence of dance as a Yoga.
Kuchipudi Adavus: The training of a classical dancer begins with strengthening, balance and stamina exercises that condition and maintain the bodies kinetic and strength qualities. Elders in the tradition of Kuchipudi Indian Classical Dance compiled a set of exercises and fundamentals from the Bharatarnavam and Natya Shastra to ready the disciples body for dance. This will energise your body, your spirit and as well as quiet an overactive mind. Dance is the complete exercise and its practice transcends all worldly troubles.
This is open for all and beneficial to dancers of all disciplines and all levels of experience. For the beginner it is a new subject, and for those who want to revisit Kuchipudi - it is a daily reintroduction and sadhna (practice). This is our ardent effort to nurture and create a healthy environment in our homes and to bring us all together through the peaceful and spiritually uplifting practice of Indian classical dance.
International students can pay through Eventbrite & Indian students please call +919810404778 or email students.natyatarangini@gmail.com for payment in Indian Rupees.

~ New for the India Dance Festival: Storytelling & dance by Bhavana Reddy with live Q&A ~
Kuchipudi exponent Bhavana Reddy tells & performs "Bhama Kalapam", a dance drama inspired on Hindu literature. It's a classic that every Kuchipudi dancer must have danced at least once. Central heroine is Satyabhama, one of Krishna’s consorts, who struggles with the fact that he has several wives. She wants him exclusively for herself and is unapologetically outspoken about this. Bhavana tells us this story and illustrates this with excerpts of her dance production.
